Shallot (Allium ascalonicum)
The shallot is a perennial vegetable which is grown annualy from its bulb It is from the liliaceae family
ROTATIONIt is grown in the root vegetable plot.
CULTIVATIONThe bulbs are planted during a waning crescent moon in November for the grey shallot and in February and March for the other varieties.
NEIGHBOURING PLANTSThe shallot associates with carrots, beetroot and lettuce but avoid planting near peas and beans.
DISEASES AND PARASITESThe same as for the onion.
ADVICEBe careful not plant too deep (around 2 cm).
Plant on a slight mound to avoid an excess of humidity. |
