Rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum)

The rhubarb is a perennial vegetable by its roots

ROTATION

It doesn't enter into crop rotation.

CULTIVATION

Crown division is effected at the start of spring.
Split the crown into 6 or 8 pieces making sure that each piece has at least one 'eye'.
It is possible to sow the seeds in a nursery bed in April and May during a waning crescent moon.

NEIGHBOURING PLANTS

It should be planted in 'isolation' owing to its large growth.
It can rest in place 10 years or more.

DISEASES AND PARASITES

Rust is rare enough, spray with a Bordeaux mixture.

ADVICE

Cut the flowerting stems to avoid the plant losing its strength.
