Rhubarb (Rheum rhaponticum)
The rhubarb is a perennial vegetable by its roots It is from the polygonaceae family
ROTATIONIt doesn't enter into crop rotation.
CULTIVATIONCrown division is effected at the start of spring. Split the crown into 6 or 8 pieces making sure that each piece has at least one 'eye'.
It is possible to sow the seeds in a nursery bed in April and May during a waning crescent moon.
NEIGHBOURING PLANTSIt should be planted in 'isolation' owing to its large growth. It can rest in place 10 years or more.
DISEASES AND PARASITESRust is rare enough, spray with a Bordeaux mixture.
ADVICECut the flowerting stems to avoid the plant losing its strength. |
