Advice on using dahliasThis plant is prolific, economic and easy to cultivate. Dahlias lend theselves to multiple uses :They can be cultivated in flower beds, against a wall, in a border and even in the kitchen garden for the production of cut flowers. All dahlias must be supported, except for the dwarf and semi-drawf varieties. Supports must be supple yet solid to maintain the plant. A mulch of soil, peat, and pine-bark keeps the soil damp and nourishes the plant. Dahlias can be associated with other flower annuals such as : Tagetes (French Marigolds), Anthemis (Chamomile), Cleomes and Cosmos. With hardy perennials such as : Dwarf Asters, Rudbeckias (Coneflowers) and the Coreopsis. Their best use is to be cultivated in single varieties in a landscaped area. All dahlias whatever their colour prefer a sunny position, they dont like shade. Red dahlias harmonise with yellow. Mauve dahlias with orange, pink with bright orange, pale orange with deep-red and bright red, and white with all the colours. It's also a matter of personal taste. |
