Things to do in the garden

It's harvest time in the vegetable garden, a bountiful time for bottling, preserving etc,...
Prune hedges and shrubs once the flowers have died.
Preparation of seed beds and first sowing of autumn seeds (green fertiliser).
Planting of perennials and first bulbs
Seed new lawns.
Replace summer flowers by those of autumn.

Tip of the month :

Worms in nuts : To know if your nuts have worms plunge them in a bowl of boiling water. Those that come to the surface are damaged, the ones that stay on the bottom are edible.
