Potato (Solanum tuberosum)
The potato is a perennial vegetable by it's tubers It is cultivated as an annual and is from the solanaceae family like the tomato
ROTATIONIt is grown in the leaf vegetable bed or better still in it's own bed.
CULTIVATIONIt is planted when the Lilac is in flower, generally April, during a waning crescent moon.
NEIGHBOURING PLANTSIt likes being planted near to beans, peas, spinach and cabbage. It dislikes being planted near sunflowers, beetroot, squash and tomatoes.
DISEASES AND PARASITESMildew, galls, rust and fusarium are the principal diseases. Colarado beetle, mole crickets, click beetles, flea beetles and grubs are its principal pests.
ADVICEThe potato likes potash. “Earth up” at least twice.
